Fans of a favorite fast food chain are upset about the restaurant’s price hike.
Chipotle-goers are now vowing to ditch the fast-paced Mexican grill after the company announced a nearly 2% price hike on its menu offerings nationwide to “compensate for inflation.”
But regular customers of the restaurant are not happy with the high costs of their burrito bowls, taking to Reddit to express their frustration. Some even planned to stop spending money on “tasteless” food, vowing to dine at competing restaurants.
“I think this might be the one for me lol. Something about raising her from where she is now just doesn’t feel worth it in a way that other raises don’t,” wrote one user.
“The idea of spending even more money than now on boneless chicken with water just feels gluttonous and wasteful compared to going somewhere else or just eating at home.”
“They’ve already rated me,” cried another.
“I hardly go anymore,” someone else admitted. “Used to love Chipotle.”
“I prefer Moe’s anyway,” said another.
“I’m never impressed with the food at Chipotle,” commented one reviewer. “The meat is always tasteless, the beans are super bland, burritos cost over $15 where I’m at, and if you have a partner, the takeout easily turns $30. Such a waste of money for the quality of the product.”
“Chipotle was where retail workers would go to feed themselves while working in malls,” someone else recalled. “Now, they can’t even afford it. Where does one go to eat on a 30 minute lunch break making minimum wage??”
The backlash follows customer outcry over reduced portion sizes at the chain, despite Chipotle’s denial of the alleged small servings.
Last month, Chipotle CEO Scott Boatwright claimed that customers on social media seemed to be “really excited about the sharing,” a “reverse” from what was previously seen in 2024.
“We know we’re delivering value to the consumer, especially in this really tight environment, and we’re going to continue to build on that,” he said at the time.
The company’s price increases come amid a high cost of living nationwide, but especially in the Big Apple, where the cost of tuition, groceries, goods and more are rising faster than some other major metropolitan areas, according to a report by young.
“A lot of people talk to me about the added stress of making bread and even enjoying something as simple as a cup of coffee,” NYC psychotherapist Jonathan Alpert previously told The Post.
“What used to be a $3 treat is now close to $4, and in some independent cafes, well over $4.”
